“A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his life, in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul.”
― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Before coming to Germany, I had never heard of Goethe. To put him into perspective, Goethe is the Shakespeare of Germany, or as the young staff-member at Goethe's House Museum excitedly exclaimed ‘Shakespeare is the Goethe of England!’.
I wanted to visit Goethe's home not only because of his significance in the German psyche, but also because of this quote of his which I had written in my diary early on this year.
